Ja."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We like to introduce you to a new term and its practice: <strong>Pre-Use.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pre-Use means to \u2013 <strong>use something for something different than it is intended for but in a way that it still works for the initially intended use afterwards.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Examples:<\/em><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 862px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Pre-Use-Flowerpot.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2160\" src=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Pre-Use-Flowerpot.png\" alt=\"text\" width=\"852\" height=\"644\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Examples: A jar as a vase, a flower pot as an ashtray, a deposit bottle as a sugar dispenser. All have a new use but still allow for the initial one.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/community.oscedays.org\/t\/solution-pre-use-find-and-implement-existing-circular-modularity-in-your-environement\/6240\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">More epamples<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We learned the term from <strong>Jan Koerbes<\/strong> from <a href=\"http:\/\/refunc.nl\/\">ReFunc<\/a>. Jan uses the term for basically the same practice the architecture collective <a href=\"http:\/\/umschichten.de\/\">Umschichten<\/a>\u00a0calls\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/umschichten.de\/pre-cycling\/\">\u201aPre-Cycling\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What does it mean? Here is a good example:\u00a0<strong>Umschichten<\/strong> collaborated with the french group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellastock.com\/\">BellaStock <\/a>on a project where they <strong>borrowed<\/strong> wooden sticks from a building material store to build infrastructure for an event. They did <strong>not cut or paint or drilled<\/strong> the sticks \u2013 they did no harm at all! Click here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Why are Pre-Use and Circularity are such a good combination?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Pre-Use &amp; Circularity \u2013 A Perfect Team<\/h2>\n<p>Pre-Use is a very good approach to Circularity! A few reasons why:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Modularity \u2013 <\/strong>Most examples of Pre-Use point to already existing cases of Modularity. And the most beautiful cases of Pre-Use might be the ones, where the Pre-Use version still works after the initially planned use like the flower pot still works as an ashtray before and after it was used for flowers.\u00a0Pre-Use helps us to find what is already there!\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/dont-invent-a-new-modular-system-try-to-use-hack-into-an-existing-one-open-collection-on-modularity-pls-contribute\/\">We don\u2019t have to invent new modular systems!<\/a>\u00a0Therefore Pre-Use can inspire or teach design for circularity!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_2174\" style=\"width: 461px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/dont-invent-a-new-modular.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2174\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2174 \" src=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/dont-invent-a-new-modular.png\" alt=\"dont invent a new modular\" width=\"451\" height=\"370\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2174\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One way to hack into existing modular systems: Find them where they were not put purposely.<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pre-Use = Re-Use = ReDuce! \u2013 <\/strong>A complex world of products presents a problem for sustainable Circularity. The more different products are there the more complex it becomes to organize repairing, reusing and recycling of parts and materials. Pre-Use might enable us to shrink down complexity. We just need one factory for flowerpots \u2013 and not a second one for ashtrays too. PreUse alles to reduce complexity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_2175\" style=\"width: 459px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/fewer-factories-1.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2175\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-2175\" src=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/fewer-factories-1.png\" alt=\"Fewer factories = fewer complexity, fewer transport, fewer energy \" width=\"449\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2175\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fewer factories = fewer complexity, fewer transport, fewer energy<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Circular Design \u2013 <\/strong>Pre-Use points to existing cases of working circular modularity in our already built world \u2013 to existing building blocks for a circular lifestyle. This makes it a good thing to look into for circular designers. Sometimes you just need to make some minor modifications to make one object perfect for several uses: Redesign the pipe-holder in the example above so that it looks and works good in both cases for pipes and curtains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_2180\" style=\"width: 459px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/redesign-1-1.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2180\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2180 \" src=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/redesign-1-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"449\" height=\"264\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2180\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Redesign things to make them &#8220;look good&#8221; in different use cases.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A good explanation\/good education \u2013 <\/strong>Pre-Use makes it easy to explain the most important message for people that want to implement circularity:\u00a0<em>Don\u2019t use anything before you know what will happen with it after the first use!\u00a0Always have a plan for what comes after that is not \u201cthrow it in the trash\u201d before you start at all.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_2176\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/no-clue-2.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2176\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2176 \" src=\"http:\/\/mifactori.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/no-clue-2.png\" alt=\"Don\u2019t do anything before you know what you will do next with it.\" width=\"450\" height=\"512\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2176\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Don\u2019t do anything before you know a positive thing that happens next with it.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">That might make in fact Pre-Use the single great rule or <strong>the perfect basic operation to make a circular world emerge!<\/strong>\u00a0Imagine everyone would make this a basic rule: <em>\u201eYou always have to have <strong>at least 3 positive ideas<\/strong> about the<strong> future use<\/strong> before you start to use something\u201c<\/em> \u2013\u00a0a circular world would emerge from that quickly! <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pay_It_Forward_(film)\">Pay it forward<\/a>! (Most multi-use modular systems are.)
